Founded in 1862, the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society is housed in the Pan-American Building. The Pan-American Building, originally called the New York State Building, was opened on July 1, 1901 and served to welcome many distinguished guests of the Pan-American Festival, which brought eight million people to Buffalo from May to November of 1901. Today, the Historical Society still welcomes guests to our city. It hosts a wide range of exhibits and has an extensive collection of historical artifacts, including War of 1812 uniforms, Grover Cleveland’s wedding cake box, and the revolver used to kill President William McKinley.  Interestingly, former President Millard Fillmore was one of the founders.

The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society is located at 25 Nottingham Court, Buffalo, NY 14216-3199 and its museum can be contacted at (716) 873-9644. Visit their website at www.bechs.org.
